Hot Chick With A Camera (and a treatise on baking)

That’s right. That’s me. I’m also a hot chick with a new 15″ MacBook Pro, which makes me very happy indeed. I’m also a hot chick who’s NOT baking any pies tonight, which, actually, kind of makes me a bit more elated than it rightfully should.

A couple (read, 2) years ago, I think I baked like 6 pies. Katsu and I used to do Thanksgiving at BOTH houses, which means TWO sets of pies. I made this set of amazing maple pecan pies from Epicurious.com, I’m pretty sure I scraped together a pumpkin pie for my sister, and I have a distinct memory of giving Pusser a test pie out of the goodness of my heart.

Last year, Katsu and I weren’t really speaking, so there was only one set of pies to be made. Being alone and unemployed as I was, I’m sure I made at LEAST one, possibly two, but for the life of me I can’t remember what they were. I do know, however, that they didn’t get eaten. Like, how much pie can one family really eat? Answer: not that much.

Bearing this in mind, this year I am making no pies. B! and I are feasting with my family at my aunt’s house, so I’m sure there will be ample pie to be had, without any contribution from myself. And now that I’m not doing it, I’m thinking that maybe I’m just done with pie-making. I don’t really have the space for it anymore, and I feel like I only ever did it to fit into somebody else’s idea of what somebody in my shoes should be doing. You know? Like, I’m of a certain age, and I’m married, so I should probably start baking already.

Doing things just to fit in is kind of not my idea of fun anymore. So maybe I’ll make cookies instead.
