ode to the bed

so cozy and warm, flannel sheets and down comforter, layered luxurious with a goose featherbed.

How I longed to linger this morning within your rapturous folds, shirking my errands for higher pleasure and sloth.

Dawdle I did for two hours or more, as computers at work sat empty and waiting,
no proactive thoughts could wrest me from your tender caress.

But alas, duty called, and I forced myself out; out into the cold of the arid apartment.

Now, midafternoon,
I gaze with starry eyes to the moment of surrender, your open embrace,
I will fall, numbed, into dreams.
